March 7, 14, 21, 28 Carolyn Abrams, Introduction to Cold Wax
What is cold wax medium?
Cold wax medium, or CWM, is an oil painting medium. It is composed mainly of beeswax, with a small amount of solvent to soften it and other ingredients to aid in drying time. It has a soft, paste-like consistency at room temperature
and dries to a matte surface. Unlike encaustic processes, it requires no heat to use it. Many luminous and unique effects are possible using CWM. (Cold Wax Academy) In this class we will explore the materials, substrates and the cold wax medium as it applies to oil paints. As well as the intuitive process of using the medium to express yourself on the canvas.
“Experiment” and “play” are the key words to this workshop as I share the many techniques I use with this medium. We will build on our vocabulary from one week to the next and will end with a clear knowledge of what the medium is and how it works. How you use it will depend on you and your own style of working.

Carolyn Abrams has been a mixed media artist for 45 years beginning with watercolors and expanding her interests and play to acrylics, collage, inks, fluid acrylics and recently oils and cold wax medium. Experimenting with how they work alone and together is the fun part!

February 7, 14, 21 28: Tony Conner, Watercolor
This workshop is open to all levels. There will be a brief review of some of the principals covered in our fall two-day workshop. We will then launch further into Tony’s landscape technique. Tony has really thought through the development of a successful landscape and has broken the process into simple steps which he demonstrates.
